National Maritime & Cefas Conference

From River to Open Sea – Delivering applied aquatic science to manage and mitigate risk to the marine environment from increased human use and development

The UK marine environment is a hugely significant resource and is becoming increasingly important as the number of users increases and the human impact on our seas and rivers grows.

The Centre for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas) as an Executive Agency of Defra is the UK’s most diverse organisation supplying applied aquatic science services. Based in the UK but active worldwide, Cefas’s partners include UK and overseas governments, public and private sector organisations, research and educational organisations.

Join us for this National Maritime & Cefas Conference to develop and strengthen partnerships that continue to make important contributions to securing healthy, sustainable marine and freshwater environments, so that current and future generations can prosper.

An opportunity for delegates to hear from leading Cefas experts, about how their breadth of specialist expertise provides a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to business needs.

Take the time to discuss current issues and network with delegates from a range of sectors including ports, marine construction, aquaculture, fisheries, government, marine and coastal infrastructure, offshore renewable energy, shipping, oil and gas.

The programme will cover aspects on marine licencing regulations, oil spill modelling, advice on potential impacts to fish in the marine environment from developments, sediment and water sampling for physical, biological and chemical characteristics, habitat mapping, aerial surveillance of coastline, environmental data collection possibilities, vessel surveys, coastal erosion/flood defences and food safety with respect to shellfisheries.
